Community Programs

Through the Ryan Callahan Foundation our mission is to provide moments of family unity which replace the hardships of battling cancer and to present the opportunity to create everlasting memories of togetherness, hope, and love.

We at the Ryan Callahan Foundation believe these special moments of togetherness have the power to elevate each family’s hopes and spirit in the search for a cure. The Ryan Callahan Foundation is composed of three elements; The “Two-Four” Club, Cally’s Crew, and our efforts to support local and independent cancer foundations.

What is the Two Four Club?

The “2-4” club is a program which showcases the families we have been inspired by, and families who will inspire us in the future. The idea of the club is to give those families an opportunity to tell their unique story, to truly let people know how a family’s life is affected by pediatric cancer and to provide communal strength for others undergoing challenges of their own. Our Stories page on our website allows this sharing to happen. Once a family has submitted their story, either directly through our website or via referral to the RCF, we will select a monthly “feature family” to receive a family experience. Each month, one family will be selected to receive a one-day vacation, excursion, or experience. Then, on a quarterly basis, we will choose one separate family to be showcased who will receive a three night, four day family vacation. Those families will be featured on the Stories page as well!

How do I become a “2-4” Club Sponsor?

Donations of all sizes are welcome to help support the 2-4 club! Those who generously donate greater than $2,000 will be recognized on our website, should they so choose, as ‘2 Level supporters.’ Likewise, those who generously donate greater than $4,000 will be listed on our website, should they so choose. Based on our estimates, each monthly family experience will be valued around $2,000 dollars and each quarterly family experience will equate to roughly $4,000: thus the significance of the “2-4” club. Please see the samples vacation packages below to get an idea of what a family may receive!

We will begin selecting and announcing winners and their families in January, 2017. To submit a story for consideration, visit our stories tab and you and your family could be featured on our site and get to experience one of these fabulous vacations!

Callys Crew

During select Tampa Bay Lightning regular season home games, the RCF is also proud to host pediatric cancer patients from the Tampa Bay area in our Cally’s Crew suite. The patients and their families are drawn from four different non profit organizations in the greater Tampa area: the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the Children’s Cancer Center, 1Voice Foundation, and Beat NB. Each organization disperses the tickets to their patients and their families as they see fit. The majority of our guests are actively receiving treatments during the time of their visit to the suite, while others are survivors in remission.

Cally’s Crew gives each person in attendance a gift bag, which contains a Cally’s Crew branded t-shirt, sunglasses, a 5x7 photo of Ryan, and a puck. After the game, the RCF brings all of the Cally’s Crew guests down to a specified locker room where Ryan has the opportunity to meet the kids and their families, sign autographs, and take pictures.

Future plans: We would like to have blankets made with our “Cally’s Crew” logo on them for the suite. Since many of our kids are actively receiving treatments, they are cold due to their lack of hair and the brisk air in the arena. We are in the process of making the suite a less ‘sterile-feeling’ environment. We want the kids to feel comfortable and to keep their minds far from the hospital room they spend so much of their time in! We plan to hang artwork made by pediatric cancer patients on the walls, place a goal-buzzer in the ceiling to signal when Tampa has scored, put an Xbox in the suite for kids to play during intermission, remove the high top tables and chairs currently in place and to replace them with bean bag chairs and low tables.

Aside from our community programs outlined above, the RCF’s third aim is to financially support local pediatric cancer nonprofits. Currently those nonprofits include the Children’s Cancer Center, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and the 1Voice Foundation, which you can read about more by visiting our ‘About the Cause‘ page.

We are also looking to expand and support others, as well as the efforts of individuals in their call for cancer awareness and treatment. Our passion is giving back to the children we work with in Cally’s Crew. Our kids are so passionate about fighting pediatric cancer and finding ways to fund the cure, that many have started, or are participating in, their own independent fundraising efforts to fund pediatric cancer research. By way of example, one of our upcoming events is ‘Cut for a Cure:’ Visit our Events and News page to learn more about this event, and our Stories page to learn about the kids that inspire us.
